Jeez or Geez is a language that is classified as a Semitic language and is the official language of Ethiopia. It is one of the liturgical languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and is also spoken by some Protestant denominations. The language was originally written in the Ge'ez script, which has been around for over 2000 years and is still used today, although it has been modified and adapted to the modern-day writing systems. Jeez is considered one of the oldest languages in the world, and it is a primary source of Ethiopian history and culture. Today, it is spoken as a mother tongue by only a small proportion of the Ethiopian population, and it is mostly used in religious settings. Despite its decline in usage, Jeez remains an important part of Ethiopian national identity.
